Introduction

Hello, my name is Scott Donahue. I am a Health and Exercise Science major here at the University of Oklahoma. I am enrolled in Chronic Disease Intervention, Lifestyle Intervention, and some classes for Army ROTC. I am glad to have the freedom to participate in this class when it is convenient for me because I have a pretty hectic schedule. I am a full time student, I work part time for an electrician as his apprentice, I am in the ROTC program at OU, as well as serving in the Army National Guard. At times it seems as if I never have a chance to just relax. If I do acquire some free time I typically spend it binge watching Netflix! Some of my favorite shows are Game of Thrones, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, and Arrow just to name a few.

I am also reading the Game of Thrones series. I am just ahead of the show but not by much so I really need to catch up on some reading before the next season airs. My favorite books were the Night Angel trilogy which was about an assassin. I read all three books twice! One of my favorite hobbies is playing soccer. I started playing when I was five years old and continued to play until I started college. I played for my high school team at Broken Arrow which is where I grew up. I also played on a competitive team from the time I was 12 years old until graduation. I also really enjoy martial arts such as kick boxing and jujitsu. Over the break I spent most of my time working or spending time with family. I guess that's all I have to say about myself.

This is my cat Alice

I have had Alice for almost a year. She likes to follow me around my apartment and always has to be in the same room as me. She is my only pet.

  1. I think it's so interesting that you're a health and exercise science major! What are you hoping to do with that? Also, how did you get started as an apprentice for an electrician? I'm the same as you in that I spend what little free time I seem to have binge watching shows on Netflix. I haven't watched Game of Thrones yet, but I really want to start it because I've heard great things about it! I grew up in Tulsa, which isn't far from Broken Arrow, so I think it's really cool that you were playing competitive soccer there! Who knows, I may have seen you in passing at some point. I have wanted to get into kickboxing, but I don't know how to start? Any suggestions?

Also, Alice is so cute! I wish I could have cats, but I am allergic to them so they make me sneeze. But it's cute cats like Alice that make me want one so bad!

    1. I am thinking about going to PT school later on, but I'd like to see what happens for me with the military once I graduate and go from there. That's cool that you're from Tulsa! Did you play club soccer there? I would see if kickboxing classes are offered at OU. Cardio kickboxing is good for beginners as well.

  2. Your cat is so adorable! It must be nice to have a cat that follows you around. My cat likes to live by herself and do her own thing, ugh. I LOVE GAME OF THRONES! I have the books as well and have started to read them. It is literally so much better than the show, obviously because of the details. HES is pretty tough and also working isn't anything easier. Good luck with all that!!

    1. HA yes, she loves attention. Oh cool! What book are you on? I definitely agree, the books are pretty great.

  3. Scott,
I also like the ability to do the work in this class when it is convenient because I work full time and I go to school full time. I am a Human Relations major and HR offers a lot of online classes, which make it possible for me to go to school and work. I have never watched Game of Thrones but I have heard that it is a really good series. One of my favorite television series right now is How to get Away with Murder! I can’t wait for it to come back on!

    1. My friend has been telling me about that show! I don't trust his judgement though, he watches the stupidest things.

  4. Hello. Is Arrow any good? I've been thinking about watching it, but I'm trying not to devote myself to too many shows at one time. I've also heard great things about How to get Away with Murder (plus, Alfie from Harry Potter is in it, and I can't help but keep up with what shows hp stars are in). I've also seen Night Angel recommended quite a few times on Goodreads, and I've been needing to pick up a fun read. Is it pretty fast-paced? Also, such a sweet cat! If only I wasn't allergic.

  5. Scottieeeeeeeee :) I'm doing extra credit so hi! Love the picture of Alice. I'm gonna steal her one day! Shh don't tell Emily. So proud to have a friend in the army. I know, I'm corny! Or whichever specific part you are in because you know I always get confused. I swear I'm bringing that hoodie tomorrow. I'm not really sure this counts as extra credit because it seems like cheating. I wish you had more free time so we could be gym rat partners again. ROTC stole my gym buddy! I didn't know you liked to read so much! Well see you tomorrow in Chronic Disease. Bye

  6. Scott,

My roommate has been watching Sons of Anarchy sine the very beginning of the show and I hear about it constantly. I am planning on watching it sometime this upcoming summer because of how addicted to it he is. Although I am not the biggest cat fan, mainly cause all the ones I have ever met hated people I feel like your cat looks like a good one. I cannot wait to get a pet of my own in the next couple of months.

  7. Oh, from past students I know how ROTC and National Guard can be a big factor in where your time goes during the semester, Scott - and the flexibility of this course should be able to help, I hope! Work ahead if you can, and that way you can take a week or two off later if you are offline later in the semester, which I know can happen with some of those National Guard exercises. If you are into Game of Thrones, I think you will enjoy the epics... the Mahabharata, especially, even more than the Ramayana, has a whole Game-of-Thrones feel to it, very intense. And your Alice is a cutie: sometimes cats and dogs like to listen to you read your stories out loud... of course, they cannot help with the actual proofreading, ha ha, but if they think you are giving them some attention when you are reading something out loud, hey, why not? Making your cat happy is definitely good karma, so I hope both you and Alice will enjoy the class! :-)

  8. Hi Scott!

Sounds like you have a full plate! I would not be able to do all of that at once, but of course we all have different inclinations. All of your hard work will pay off, no doubt! I have been planning on starting Game of Thrones (the TV series), myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I feel like I'm caught up in too many shows and I need to finish one completely before I start another.

Alice is so adorable! Love her little face <3 I read Laura's comment, so I have to mention that I have read to my dogs many times and they seem to enjoy it :) usually they just fall asleep after awhile, haha!

  9. Hi, Scott! Seems like you're involved in a lot of really cool stuff. I've always wanted to get into martial arts, but a Karate for Kids VHS is the extent of my experience. I bet Health and Exercise Science is really interesting. For a while, I thought I might want to do that kind of thing, but I realized that blood and broken bones and other body things kind of freak me out. Congratulations on all you're doing, and have a great semester!

  10. Hi Scott!

I am also an avid binge-watcher of Netflix. My brother got me and my hubby hooked on SOA a few years ago, but we haven't watched it much since 2013. My cousin Jadon is in ROTC at OU, he is a freshman.
I think the way this course is set up will absolutely help those with hectic schedules. I am only taking 6 hours this semester, but I have so much going on outside of school with work, family, and organizations that I serve. I think learning to balance all of these obligations while you are in school with give you a great skill set for wherever you go in life.

  11. Hey Scott!! Lol I love watching Netflix too! Sons of Anarchy is a good show! I've heard that Arrow is pretty good so I probably want to try that as well. Soccer is a great sport, wish I could play soccer but I am just not coordinated enough and don't really know how to kick the ball. Your cat is so cute! How old is she? Must be nice having a cat following you around.

  12. Hey Scott!

Wow, Chronic Disease Intervention? Is that an HES course? That sounds really interesting, and I may look into it since I have a few extra electives I need to fill. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who indulges in Netflix whenever they have a free second. I also love to learn about new book series, and I may look into the Night Angel Trilogy (mainly because I'm a dork and love to play Assassins Creed haha). Alice is absolutely adorable! Your introduction post was very informative, and I feel like I've learned about some pretty neat things. Good luck in your future studies!

  13. Hi Scott, wow, it seems like you have a busy schedule just from your second sentence. I totally understand having no time to relax between school, work, and other responsibilities. However, I do agree that binge watching on Netflix or wherever for that matter is the best way to relax. Anyway, good luck this semester in school and trying to relax.

  14. Hi, Scott, nice to meet you! You do sound like a pretty busy person with your schedule, and I can really relate to that. Like you, I like to relax by either watching Netflix or reading. I may have to give your favorite series a try, because I would love reading about an assassin, especially if it happens to be a fantasy series as well. I also really like soccer, and I am glad that you liked it enough to play it for so long. Also, your cat is adorable and I am super jealous that your apartment complex lets you have pets.

  15. Hey Scott!

It’s nice to meet you! I think it’s awesome that you do so many things, but still find some time to do the things you enjoy! I love the Game of Thrones and Arrow series; those are two of my favorites! Keep reading the books they are pretty awesome, but very time consuming! Your cat is very cute, it’s always nice to have a companion! I hope you have a great semester!

  16. Hey Scott!
Army National Guard! We snagged another one! (and by we, I mean the army. It’s kinda a part of me ha ha). You seem like you are very busy, but I’m glad you still find time for Netflix. It is a necessary part of life. I’ve heard the Game of Thrones books are pretty great, although I haven’t found time to read them for myself yet. Good luck with your semester!

  17. Hey Scott! The first thing I'm going to have to comment on is Game of Thrones, being a huge GoT fan. I've actually read all the books and started watching the show from the Red Wedding scene which was.... probably not the best idea. But I'm sure you can agree with me that season four was beyond epic!

Aside from that, you have a cat too! Funny part is that I got my cat about a little bit over a year too and I was going to name the cat Alice if it was female but we ended up getting a male kitten so we named him Simba. And now we make a zillion lion king references because of him. :D

  18. Hey Scott! It's nice to (virtually) meet you! I hope that your semester is going well so far, as I can see that you are a busy person from all that you are involved in! I worked at the Huff for a long time, so I saw all the ROTC people every week for PT. You guys put in some hard work! Also, your cat is really cute! I am not much of a cat person myself, but I am sure that Alice makes a nice pet and is easy to take care of. Best of luck on the rest of your semester!

  19. Hi Scott!

I have a couple friends in ROTC and I hear how much it keeps them busy! It is impressive all that you do! I have heard lots of great things about Game of Thrones, but have not had the chance to read the books or watch the show. It’s definitely on my to-do list for either Spring Break or Summer.

Good luck with all of your activities and excited to blog with you!

  20. What's up Scott! Sounds like you have a pretty busy life. ROTC is already a pretty huge time commitment, and on top of that you work under an electrician and are a full time student! Binge watching Netflix is always awesome. I've been really into how I met your mother recently and it's hilarious! I've got a friend from Broken Arrow who played soccer I'm pretty sure! His name is Joel, and he's a junior this year! Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  21. Hi Scottie too hottie!
Oh wittle Alice. She is so precious! I love how you use her in some of your stories. This is a great picture of her. I already know all of this about you so I think I'll just add something to this story. :) Hi everyone. This is my best friend! We enjoy going to the gym and DRINK! Sorry Scottie your secret is out. I think she should have made sure we didn't know each other before we had to comment on each other's page. Well this was fun! Bye.

  22. Hey, Scott! Wow, you are a busy person! I don’t know if I would be able to handle all of that. Props to you! I am also a GoT fan and can’t wait for Season 5 to start! I have only read the first book of GoT so I need to get onto reading the rest of them soon. I wish I could get into a sport like soccer. I need to work on my athleticism first haha.

  23. Hey Scott, nice to meet you! I am also a big fan of Game of Thrones. I can’t wait till Season 5 premieres next month! I haven’t read any of the books but I really want to. I just can’t seem to find the time with the mandatory reading of textbooks that comes with attending college…maybe during the summer I’ll have time to read some of them!

  24. Hi Scott! You are a very busy guy! It is very cool that you are in ROTC and that you serve in the Army National Guard! I am right there with you – my free time is often spent watching Netflix for hours on end! I want to start watching Dexter! I have heard it is really good! Your cat Alice is so cute!

  25. Hi Scott, nice to meet you! Wow, you are involved in so many things this semester it almost makes my head hurt because I know I couldn't handle it, I'm barely hanging in there until graduation and I only have a part time job and twelve hours. It's really cool that you were so outgoing and involved in so many things when you were growing up, what a great way to live!

  26. Hello Scott! Nice to meet you! It seems like you have a lot on your plate. I will soon be joining the army also, but it will be active duty. I think it is good that you are finding some time for your self by watching shows and reading. Good luck with the rest of the semester! Love the cat picture:)
